Bruce Thompson and the Black Roses

Bruce Thompson and the Black Roses sing backup vocals on Liz Mandeville’s Earwig CDs, Look At Me (4938), Ready To Cheat (4945) and Back In Love Again (4949).

A Baptist minister who played with Isaac Hayes and the 1970s soul-funk band 24-Carat Black, Chicagoan Bruce Thompson learned piano as a child from Ralph Jones, who played organ for Mahalia Jackson.  The multi-talented Thompson also played Hammond B3 organ, was a bandleader and arranger, and formed the vocal group Bruce Thompson and the Black Roses, with Teela Owens and Precious Jewel Taylor.
