Phil Baron
Phil Baron can be heard on Liz Mandeville’s Earwig CDs Look At Me (4938), Ready To Cheat (4945) and Back In Love Again (4949).
Pianist and singer Phil Baron is a Chicago-born master of rock, blues, Delta swing and boogie-woogie piano.
Over the years, Baron has toured with his own bands, such as the Bop-Kats, The Tremblors, and Jump City, and with numerous top-tier performers. He has opened for Merle Haggard, Dan Hicks, Leon Russell, George Strait, N.R.B.Q., Eric Burdon, Asleep at the Wheel, John Hiatt’s Little Village, and toured with musical greats such as Otis Rush, James Cotton, Jimmy Rogers, Jimmy Thackery and Sugar Blue. He has performed all over the world, including Spain, Italy, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, Japan and Brazil, not to mention every province in Canada and 43 states in the U.S.
He is a self-proclaimed fan of the great honky-tonk pianists and it shows: people marvel at the complex, driving bass lines he plays with his left hand. His fans are numerous, including other musicians who appreciate his soulfulness and rhythmic technique. He brings a refreshing, high-energy rock and boogie sensibility to everything he plays, including Sinatra and Rat Pack tunes. But he can also kick it back a notch or two and uncover the true essence of any soulful ballad.
