2. What differentiates Earwig cds from other companies’ products and individual artist independent products?
We take a lot of care in the quality of audio recording and mastering, high quality graphic design and finished packaging, informative liner notes, and cds rather than cdrS. You will not find varying audio levels between tracks on an Earwig cd. Also, we generally customize the amount of time between tracks to fit the feel of the whole album, and we take great care in song selection and track sequencing, so the songs feel like they are part of an organic whole album and that they belong together.
We have a histiory of recording musicians important to the history of blues overall, and across a wide spectrum of styles and eras. We do not release blues rock. Most Earwig artists have been performing and recording at least 30 years. Many of the older recordings feature musicians who can be found in many blues history books and discographies. With just a few exceptions, most Earwig recordings have been produced by Earwig CEO Michael Frank.
3. What is the difference between a CD and a CDR?
A CD is a replicated disc, made from scratch with your content. This will have a silver bottom to it. The manufacturing process to create a CD is commonly referred to as ‘Replication‘.
A CD-R is a blank disc that we record your content onto. This disc has a greenish / silver hue to it on the bottom. The manufacturing process to record a CD-R is commonly referred to as ‘Duplication‘.
The difference between a CD (replication) and a CDR (duplication) is this: CD replication is the process of creating a glass master and stamper of your data (CD Audio, CD-Rom, DVD video) then injection molding the discs using that stamper. CD duplication is the process of taking blank, recordable discs (CDRs or DVDRs) and writing the information on them with a laser. CDRs by independent artists doing small quantity cd manufacturing runs not affiliated with a record label are more likely to be CDRs. CDRs may not play on all cd players.
