David Honeyboy Edwards – The World Don’t Owe Me Nothing EWR-4940
This CD was released immediately following the publication of Honeyboy’s autobiography by Chicago Review Press, of the same title. This recording captures Honeyboy in concert, playing a mix of his favorites and new material and telling tales, joined on eight cuts by his longtime friend Carey Bell on harmonica. Rick Sherry plays washboard and harmonica on three tracks. After 65 years of living the blues, Edwards shows no signs of letting up. His unique solo interpretations of Hide Away – the Freddie King standard – is worth the price of admission.Homesick James – Goin’ Back in the Times EWR-4929
This album was originally supposed to be half with a band and half solo. In the studio Homesick got into an argument which stopped the band session after a few disjointed tracks had been laid down. The next day Homesick played the solo style he was so adept at but rarely recorded, evoking the sounds and spirits of his contemporaries Lonnie Johnson, Tampa Red, Memphis Minnie and his own early roots in Tennessee. Honeyboy Edwards guests on second guitar on a few tracks.Louisiana Red – Sittin Here Wonderin EWR-4932
Louisiana Red, long known for his raw, emotive vocals, extremely personal lyrics, and intense, country blues influenced guitar styles, recorded this album during a one-year residence in Phoenix, Arizona in 1981-82. Producer Bob Corritore gave him free rein, and the result is this solo, heartfelt expression of Red’s passionate approach to “playing the blues hard,” as he puts it. These recordings are issued for the first time on this Earwig CD. Red moved to Europe a year after this recording session. - Tracks
