This album was produced and originally released by Lovie Lee Watson, the last piano player in the Muddy Waters Band, and a fine bandleader in his own right. It features Lovie’s booming voice, his classic piano, and killer accompaniment by guitarists Lurrie Bell, Vance Kelly and Eddie Taylor. It also features Lovie’s son Douglas Watson on bass. All the tunes were written by Lovie.
“… Lovie’s songs, expressive vocals, and steady-rollin’ piano playing shine … as do the playing of harmonica ace Carey Bell and his guitar-playing son, Lurrie. This entertaining set features Lovie’s penchant for songs about sex: saucy ‘Good Candy,’ bragging ‘Whoopin’ Thighs,’ downright dirty ‘Stick Candy.’ His romping instrumental, ‘Lovie’s Boogie,’ and rousing ‘Chief Police’ are good, old-fashioned, boogie-woogie fun.” — The Record Roundup
